Arrival & Welcome
Helmet & Bike Check: We'll do a thorough bike check to ensure everything is in good working order (brakes, tires, saddle height, etc.). I’ll also help you check and adjust your helmet for comfort and safety.
Goal Setting: We’ll take some time to talk about your mountain biking experience, goals, and any specific areas you’d like to focus on. This allows me to customise the lesson for you and tailor the day to your needs.
Rider Assessment & MTB Coaching
Dynamic Warm-up: We start with a gentle warm-up ride, riding at an easy pace to loosen up and get ready for the day.
Core Skills Assessment: I assess the ability of your core skills, such as body position, braking, and balance.
Focused Learning: I guide you through specific drills to help you improve your riding, starting at a level that suits you, from flat grass to riding trails.
Snack Break & Review
Break for Snacks: Take a break to relax, hydrate, and have a light snack or lunch.
Session Review: We can reflect on your progress, pointing out what went well and address any challenges you might have encountered.
Trail Ride & Techniques
Progressive Trail Ride: We head out onto the trail, addressing more challenging sections, with a few steeper areas and some more technical obstacles. The goal here is to apply the skills you’ve learned in a more dynamic setting.
Real-time Coaching: As you ride, I’ll provide detailed feedback on your body position, line choice and bike handling. You’ll have the opportunity to adjust your technique in real time on the trail.
Advanced Skills Work
Pump Technique: Learning to generate speed and momentum by using your body to ‘pump’ the bike over rollers and through berms.
Flow and Speed: Linking different sections together smoothly, maintaining speed and rhythm.
Line Choice: You can learn how to pick the best line through rock gardens, drops, and technical obstacles, maintaining momentum and control.
Steep Descents: We’ll work on correct body position, weighting of the bike and controlled braking techniques.
Finish Line
Final Discussion: We’ll have a final review of the day. You'll receive feedback, noting areas where you made significant progress, any challenges you encountered and riding skills for you to focus on in the future.
